Hi there! Today’s I’ve got a guest post from Mireille, a travel, music and theater enthusiast. She wrote for the stage and television, and is now working as a freelance blogger for Standard Life, a leading long-term investment and savings company providing Canadians with various and profitable annuities options. Check back tomorrow for another fresh post from yours truly! – Mo’ Houses
Of course our jobs are what sustain us financially. But there are various – and perfectly legal! – ways to make a little money on the side. Here are five ways to earn money that you may never have thought about!
Rent Your Apartment or Your Extra Room
If you are not familiar with websites such as Airbnb or Homelidays, well you should get to know them. Airbnb is a worldwide network of homeowners willing to rent their houses or a room within their house to travelers. Not only can joining Airbnb make you save money and meet interesting people during your next trip abroad, it can also help you earn a little extra cash. Why not rent your extra bedroom from time to time to friendly travelers? It’ll help pay the bills plus you’ll meet people from around the world. Also if a big event is coming in your town, consider renting your whole apparent to visitors and squatting at a friend’s house or something. You could make a ton of money by doing that, especially if your apartment is centrally located. Just to give you an idea, during the Grand Prix in Montreal – where I’m from – people can rent their downtown apartment to tourists for as mush as 2000$ a week…
Become an Online Freelance Writer
Granted, making money from writing is overrated, and do not expect to become filthy rich. But if you’re good at writing, it’s work giving a try. There are various ways you can earn money by writing online content. You can either start a blog – but don’t kid yourself, not just any blog will earn you money. It will have to be interesting; of great quality and updated on a regular basis if you want to build up an audience. Once your blog is popular, you can put ads on it, sell merchandise, charge guest writers for posts, etc. Another way to make money with your writing is to join websites such as Elance or oDesk where you can find paid freelance gigs.
Have a Yard Sale (In Real life or Online)
You probably have a bunch of stuff you don’t – or shouldn’t! – use anymore. Gather it all and have a yard sale – either in your actual yard if you have one or, more conveniently, online. You can get a nice sum of money by doing so. Plus you’ll be grateful for all that extra space in your home!
You can either do that with your friends or, on a bigger scale, by attending the events prepared by organisms such as The SWAP Team. The idea is to gather all the clothes you don’t wear anymore – but that are still is good shape – and have a swapping session with your friends. You’ll end up with a refreshed wardrobe and won’t have spent a dime. Granted, I cheated for this one: This will not earn you money, so to speak. But you’ll save a bunch, which is good enough!
Have a Crowd Funding Campaign
If you need a considerable amount of money for a specific project try and do a crowd funding campaign online. Websites such as Indiegogo or Kickstarter all give you the opportunity to seek funding from your peers – or your fans if you have some – in a quick, easy and safe way. Check them out and see if it could fit your needs!
