Have you ever gotten a phone call from a telemarketer? Please, of course you have. Everyone has. I never really got any calls myself, that is until last month when all of a sudden Telus started calling me daily. No exaggeration, they called me everyday for an entire week. Always at 3pm on the dot, while I was at work and thus couldn’t answer my cell phone. Finally, the following week I was prepared. I waited until a few minutes before 3pm, grabbed my cell phone and went to the stairwell awaiting the call. It was of course someone from an outsourced call centre. I told them I had received numerous calls, no I was not interested in getting a home phone because I have a cell phone (obviously, since I am on it right now), and please take me off your call list. They said they would, and stupidly I thought that was the end of it. How blind I was.
I received two more calls after that, and both times I requested my number be taken off of their call list. The most recent call I got was when I was at home at 8 o’clock at night. At that point, I was about to call Telus and tell them I was thinking of switching to another company if they didn’t stop harassing me as well as waste my precious cell phone minutes. That’s when my wonderful BF looked at me and said “Why don’t you just register your number on the National Do Not Call List?” That tid-bit of info would have been useful a couple weeks ago, thanks future husband. After one google search, there it was, The National Do Not Call List. You type in your phone number, click ok, and that’s it. It literally took my 2 minutes. Apparently it takes about 3 weeks to a month to take effect and you need re-register every 5 years, but I’m hopeful this will finally put an end to it all.
So, the next time a telemarketer calls you asking if you want something you don’t need because if you did you’d probably already have it by now, I’d suggest registering to this no call list; or if you are feeling particularly sassy you can always pull a Seinfeld, minus the laugh track.
What’s your best telemarketer story/experience?
