Meeting Strangers and Making a Home

I’m just writing a short post today because I’ve come down with a cold and don’t have that much energy today. Thank goodness for Dayquil, that’s all I can say. I still have no idea how I got sick as I’ve been pretty much at home most of the week, but at least I’m sick in our own apartment and not our old sublet, right?

This weekend a few good things happened. First, we finally got our couch and a few other pieces of furniture, so now our place is finally starting to feel more like a home. I think in about a month’s time it will be pretty much complete besides art on the walls and some other home decoration projects I have planned. The second cool thing that happened was I did something I’ve never done before. My HB and I found a meet up group that was having a get together at a pub on Saturday night and we thought “What the hell, let’s go!” It was definitely strange at first hanging out with a bunch of strangers, but after a bit of getting to know everyone it was really thrilling. Sometimes I forget how many people are out there in the world with lives and stories to share, so it was really neat meeting a new, diverse group of people and getting to know all of them. It definitely lifted our spirits and I think I might try a few other meet up groups on my own too.

Other than that, because I’ve been sick not a lot has been going on besides me watching two seasons of Dragons Den. It’s so fascinating seeing all of the people on the show and their pitches. I can’t say that I would ever have the guts to do the same, but I feel like I am learning a lot of useful business tips while I’m watching. Until Wednesday when I will hopefully be good as new and have a brand new, exciting post to share with all of you!

How was your weekend? What did you do?

  • Aww that sucks that you are sick. Maybe you got sick from one of the people you met at the Meetup?

Dragon’s Den is definitely intimidating, but I’ve met some people who’ve successfully pitched on it and they said that it’s not so scary, that they spend like an hour pitching and then edit it all down to include only the snarky comments from the investors.

  • I’m glad you got some furniture! And, I hope you feel better!
We looked at houses this weekend and had three showings at our home. Nothing too exciting!

  • I’m so glad that you finally settled in to a place that you can call your own! I envy your lack of social anxiety. I’d die at a meetup group. I get so wierd about stuff like that.

  • I’ve never heard of that show. What’s it about? Hope you feel better btw. I pretty much played volleyball the laid low watching movies and TV. I have to admit I was fairly bored and REALLY wanted to go out but my budget is tight this month. :(

  • It sucks being sick. I will say that I think you can get sick from a new place depending on if the previous tenants. When I moved into my last apartment, within one-two months I was coughing up my lungs because the previous tenants were so dirty and left the apartment so disgusting that my body was having an allergic reacting to cockroach poop! Gross I know. I ended up needing to take prednisone (steroids) and codeine syrup (all through prescription) to get the coughing to stop so I wouldn’t hurt myself. I doubt that’s your problem but even something as maximal as a recent paint job can affect some people since allergies do change during our lifetime.

  • Hope you´ll feel better soon! having a cold is just soo boring and energy draining! I´ve had a pretty good 3 days weekend. Just relaxed, exercised and ate healthy:-) I also got the day of work today to get a paper done for Uni (love having an understanding employer)!

  • Good for you for doing the “meet-up” thing. Something I would probably never do which means I should push myself to try it! Sometimes I know myself too well. :-)

  • I’ve always wanted to do one of those meet ups things. The introvert in me is absolutely terrified, but I think it’s such a fun thing to do. I’ve heard great things about it from people I know.

I hope you feel better, Jessica! Dayquil is definitely a miracle-worker.

  • Hope you feel better soon. I know a bunch of people at at work are sick right now. Congrats on the new furniture. I can be pretty introverted in social situations, it’s something I’m working on being better at.

    • Hmm maybe there’s a bug floating around? And me and my HB are generally pretty introverted but when we did go to the meet up we noticed that lots of the people there were also introverted and this was a way for them to get out of their comfort zone and meet new people. I would definitely try it at least once if I were you.
