About

To begin, let me explain the reasoning behind my blog’s name. Remember being a kid and being picked on because of your last name? Well, mine is Moorhouse, and the only insult my peers could think of was “Moorhouse…you’ve got more houses”. Not quite sure how this was supposed to hurt or embarrass me, especially when there are so many better words that rhyme with Moorhouse like outhouse, poorhouse and whorehouse, but hey, they clearly weren’t the brightest kids. This little taunt must have stuck in the back of my head as I grew up because I’ve always wanted to bump into one of those kids at some high school reunion Romy-and-Michele-style and say “So Jimmy, how many houses do you have? Because I have 5. I guess I do have more houses”, then I’d snap my fingers all the way down while my sidekick would say “Yeah!”. Oh, if life were a movie.

From a very early age I’ve been very conscious of my relationship with money. Well, mainly because I’ve never had a lot of it. I never got an allowance, I started working at 15 and paid my own way through university. Needless to say, I was brought up to be very frugal, though my dad says that’s just part of being Scottish. But, once I finished school and got my first real job, I realized I needed to be more than frugal in order to save up for my future and afford the lifestyle I’ve always wanted.

That is where this blog comes in. I’ve created this blog to document and share my personal finance journey with all you on the interwebs. More importantly, this blog is for all you strong, independent, sassy ladies out there (like me) who bring home their own bacon and eat it too. Or whatever the vegetarian alternative to bacon is. Celery maybe?

Anywho, thanks for reading and feel free to comment on any posts or shoot me an email. But please don’t be a jerk. Any negative cyberbullyish comments will be deleted and a fist will emerge from your computer screen and punch you.

Cheers,

-Mo’ Houses (a.k.a. Jessica Moorhouse from Vancouver, BC)
